Their Imperious Actions

How many deaths happen in a year? 55.3 million world wide. How about people who commit suicide each year? 1 million world wide . That's a lot of people. And it's not as much as 55.3 million but if you think about it, 1 million is still a lot.

About 4,400 of them are young people. According to research, bully victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to commit suicide than non-victims. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people. That's pretty big if you think about it. Out of all the young people (18 and younger) who live in this world and suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death. Kind of mind-blowing right?

Take Destiny for example, one day she went home hoping to talk to her friends around the world on the internet. Except when she did, she wasn't expecting something so vile on her accounts. She received many threats and had been bullied over the internet. As time grew, she couldn't deal with it anymore. So as a result, she shut down all her accounts and lost contact with her best friends around the world. She later became depressed. She became more of an introvert and then after a while, she cut herself.

Many teens are depressed due to bullying. And they tend not to tell anyone because they're scared. Ms. Schwartz, a school counselor at HMS stated, "Some students have expressed they don't want to be known as a snitch, and others have feared the bullying may get worse." She also stated, "I have worked here for 16 years, so probably 100s [Of people that have reported bullying they've witnessed/experienced]" So out of the thousands and thousands of students from 6th to 8th grade at HMS throughout the 16 years, only 100s have reported bullying. This is a problem that should be solved. When victims of bullying don't report these incidents it can lead them to hurt themselves and/or commit suicide.

Suicide and cutting aren't the only way out of bullying. It might seem as if shutting yourself out and being an introvert is the only way to deal with this. It's not. Many people suggest trying to talk to a councilor about it. Or tell a teacher about who's bullying you. And if it's over the internet, block and report them.
